The NHL’s Eastern Conference Final is set to feature the Carolina Hurricanes and Florida Panthers. This marks the second time in three seasons that these two teams face off for a chance at the Stanley Cup Final, having previously met in the 2023 Eastern Conference Final.

Carolina advanced to this stage with victories over the New Jersey Devils and Washington Capitals, both in five-game series. Meanwhile, Florida reached the final after defeating the Tampa Bay Lightning and Toronto Maple Leafs.

During their regular season meetings, Carolina had a record of 1-2 against Florida. The Hurricanes were without goaltenders Frederik Andersen and Pyotr Kochetkov due to injuries during their two losses in November. However, they secured a win with Kochetkov in goal during their last encounter on January 2.

Florida aims to return to the Stanley Cup Final for a third consecutive year. The team has scored 45 goals through two rounds of playoffs, leading all teams. Their penalty kill ranks second only to Carolina’s.

Carolina’s power play has improved significantly during the postseason, moving from 25th place in the regular season to fourth place now. Their penalty kill remains strong as well. In contrast, Florida’s power play ranks tenth this postseason, while their penalty kill stands second overall.

In net for Carolina are Frederik Andersen and Pyotr Kochetkov. Andersen boasts impressive playoff statistics with a .937 save percentage and a goals-against average of 1.36. On Florida’s side, Sergei Bobrovsky has an 8-4 record with a .901 save percentage and 2.31 goals-against average across twelve games.

Key players include Carolina’s Andrei Svechnikov who had an impactful first round with five goals against New Jersey and added three more against Washington. For Florida, Brad Marchand has contributed significantly since joining from Boston ahead of the trade deadline.

Players from both teams shared their perspectives on facing each other again:

Sebastian Aho remarked: “To be the best, you’ve got to beat the best.”

Jordan Staal reflected on past losses: “It’s definitely in the back of your mind and you want to get them back.”

Jaccob Slavin discussed challenges posed by opponents like Alexander Barkov: “He’s big; he’s strong; he has poise with puck.”

Rod Brind’Amour praised Svechnikov’s postseason performance: “The effort’s always been there…he’s been impactful.”

Jordan Martinook highlighted Andersen’s role: “Whenever we’ve had breakdowns he’s been there.”

Frederik Andersen emphasized teamwork: “It’s a team effort…everyone’s bought into that extra little bit.”
