Darren Yorke, Associate General Manager of the Carolina Hurricanes and General Manager of the Chicago Wolves, announced that the Greensboro Gargoyles will become the ECHL affiliate for the Hurricanes. “We’re thrilled to affiliate with the Gargoyles and reconnect with our franchise’s history in Greensboro,” said Yorke. “We look forward to working closely with the Gargoyles staff to develop players who could someday make an impact here in Raleigh.”

The Greensboro Gargoyles are scheduled to start playing this October at First Horizon Coliseum as part of the ECHL, a developmental hockey league. Ticket plans are currently available for purchase.

The team is owned by Zawyer Sports & Entertainment, which also manages several other sports teams including Jacksonville Icemen and Savannah Ghost Pirates. They also consult on operations for Tahoe Knight Monsters and Ghost Pirates Ice. Additionally, Zawyer Sports is preparing for the launch of UPshot League, a professional women’s basketball league set to begin in May 2026.
