Governor Josh Stein has made two key appointments to the District Court, filling vacancies in Judicial Districts 8 and 9. Tia Hudgins Taylor and Sonya Davis have been appointed as judicial officers, each bringing a wealth of experience in the legal field.

Tia Hudgins Taylor has been appointed to serve in District Court for Judicial District 8, which encompasses Edgecombe, Nash, and Wilson Counties. Taylor steps into the role following the retirement of Judge William Solomon. Her professional background includes time as an associate attorney at Lassiter and Sperati, PLLC. She has an educational background with a B.A. from Queens University of Charlotte and a J.D. from Elon University School of Law.

In a similar move, Sonya Davis will serve District Court for Judicial District 9, covering Greene, Lenoir, and Wayne Counties. She fills the position left vacant by the retirement of Judge Beth Heath. Davis has been operating as a solo practitioner in Kinston, focusing on domestic legal matters, real estate, and criminal defense. She holds both a B.A. and a J.D. from North Carolina Central University.

Commenting on the appointments, Governor Josh Stein said, “Tia Hudgins Taylor and Sonya Davis are exceptional attorneys who have dedicated themselves to the practice of the law. They will be impartial and hard-working jurists, and I look forward to their service.”
