Today, Governor Stein issued a statement following the adjournment of the General Assembly without reaching an agreement on the state budget.
“The Senate and the House failed to come together to meet the needs of North Carolinians before the start of the new budget year,” Governor Stein remarked. He acknowledged some progress with increased Helene funding but emphasized that many urgent challenges remain unaddressed due to the absence of a comprehensive budget.
Governor Stein highlighted the importance of providing real pay raises for teachers, law enforcement, and other state employees to ensure effective recruitment and retention. He also expressed concern over potential federal cuts to Medicaid, describing it as “irresponsible” for Raleigh not to fully fund North Carolina’s Medicaid program.
The Governor concluded by expressing his willingness to collaborate with the General Assembly in order to invest in residents and expand opportunities across the state.
