Governor Josh Stein recently announced a series of appointments and nominations to various boards and commissions. Notable appointments include Maurice O. “Mo” Green, elected in 2024 as the State Superintendent, to the Education Commission of the States as a State Education Agency Representative. Dr. Elena Ashburn was appointed as the Governor’s Proxy, previously the Central Area Superintendent of the Wake County Public School System.

The North Carolina Board of Science, Technology, and Innovation now sees Sheila A. Mikhail as Chair. Mikhail is recognized for her work as Co-Founder of M34, Inc. and Jurata Thin Film, Inc.

Elliott Abrams, a partner at Cheshire Parker Schneider, has been nominated to the Governor’s Crime Commission focusing on criminal defense.

The North Carolina Board of Transportation has Anthony “Tony” Lathrop appointed as Chair, continuing his service since 2017. David Womack, having retired from his role as Owner of Womack Electric Supply Company, represents the 2nd Transportation Division.

Key appointments to the North Carolina Brain Injury Advisory Council include Libby Wilhelmson and Dr. April Groff for leadership roles.

Appointments to the North Carolina State Licensing Board for General Contractors include Phillip Crumb filling a Highway Construction seat. Dr. Lori Carlin joins the North Carolina Commission on Volunteerism and Community Service.

For the North Carolina Interagency Council for Coordinating Homeless Programs, Darla G. Cole, William C. Ray, and Karen Elizabeth Wade are among those appointed to roles.

In the field of early intervention for children with disabilities, Dr. Louis A. Finney, Jr. and Lisa E. Phillips are highlighted among the new appointees.

Michael Stephen Hawkins was appointed to the North Carolina Utilities Commission and The Honorable Alvena Heggins to the Veterans Affairs Commission.

The Child Care and Early Education Task Force sees Dan Tetreault’s appointment. Christopher J. Ayers was nominated as the Executive Director of the Public Staff of the North Carolina Utilities Commission.

Regina Smith Adams is joining the North Carolina Employment Security Board of Review, while Brent Sigmon and others have been nominated to the North Carolina Building Code Council. Further nominations include Amy Musser and Nicholas Picariello to the North Carolina Residential Code Council.

Governor Stein’s appointments and nominations span several sectors and counties, reflecting a broad spectrum of expertise and backgrounds.
