Erin Paré, a Republican member of the North Carolina State House representing the 37th district since 2021, used her social media platform on November 17, 2025, to voice concerns about property taxes and their impact on senior citizens.
In her posts, Paré stated, “Property taxes are killing everyone, especially seniors on a fixed income. Senior citizens who worked hard their entire lives to buy a home and achieve the American Dream should not be taxed in to homelessness due to elected Democrats’ tax and spend wrecklessness.” (November 17, 2025).
She further criticized local officials by saying, “The Wake County Board of Commissioners is currently run by all Democrats, and they evidently love making you pay more and more in taxes. They do it every year – with impunity.” (November 17, 2025).
Paré also addressed potential solutions in another post: “The answer is for the County Commissioners to cut the tax rate. But they won’t. So, I’m doing something about it at the legislature.” (November 17, 2025).
Paré was elected to the North Carolina State House in 2021 after replacing former representative Sydney Batch. She has positioned herself as an advocate for lowering property taxes and has been critical of what she describes as “tax and spend” policies from Democratic officials at the county level.
Wake County’s Board of Commissioners is currently controlled entirely by Democrats. Paré’s recent statements highlight ongoing debates within North Carolina over property tax rates and fiscal policy decisions made at both county and state levels.
