Erin Paré, a public figure known for her engagement on social issues, has recently expressed her views on two significant topics through her Twitter account. The tweets address a tragic incident in Texas and the legal status of sports betting in North Carolina.
On July 6, 2025, Erin Paré shared her condolences regarding a tragic event in Texas. She stated, “Incredibly heartbreaking news coming from Texas. Wayne and I are praying hard for the victim’s families. Our hearts go out to the families of the precious little girls who lost their lives in this tremendous tragedy. May they rest in eternal and everlasting peace in the loving”.
The following day, on July 7, 2025, Paré commented on the recent legalization of sports betting in North Carolina. She mentioned, “Whether you agree with it or not, sports betting is now legal in NC. I don’t participate in gambling in any form, never have, never will. But it is wrong for NC to not conform to federal law and not allow for the itemized deduction of gambling losses capped at winnings.”
Continuing her thoughts on the matter of taxation related to gambling winnings, she added on July 7th: “Right now, NC is taxing gross winnings, not net winnings, which is inconsistent with Article 5, Section 2(6) of the NC constitution which says ‘only net incomes are taxed.’ Here’s a hypothetical example of the problem:”
North Carolina’s approach to taxing gambling earnings has sparked discussions about its alignment with constitutional directives and federal laws.
