Environmental Air Systems, LLC (EAS), a manufacturer specializing in modular HVAC infrastructure, has announced plans to expand its operations in Asheboro, Randolph County. The company will invest $20 million and create 300 new jobs as part of the expansion.

EAS is a subsidiary of Comfort Systems USA, Inc. and has operated in the Triad region since 1953. The expansion aims to address increased demand for prefabricated mechanical, electrical, and plumbing systems used in critical facilities.

North Carolina Governor Josh Stein commented on the announcement: “North Carolina continues to be a leader in advanced manufacturing, and Environmental Air Systems’ expansion to Randolph County reflects the strength and talent of our workforce. This project will create hundreds of new jobs, support local families, and strengthen our state’s role in innovative industrial solutions.”

The project involves collaboration between several organizations, including the North Carolina Department of Commerce and the Economic Development Partnership of North Carolina (EDPNC). Other partners include the North Carolina General Assembly, Commerce’s Divisions of Workforce Solutions and Rural Economic Development, the North Carolina Community College System, Randolph Community College, Randolph County government agencies, and the city of Asheboro.

EAS is receiving a performance-based grant of up to $3.29 million from the North Carolina Department of Commerce to help fund its expansion. The company is also an investor in EDPNC.

The EDPNC serves as North Carolina’s statewide economic development organization. It operates as a private nonprofit under contract with the state’s Department of Commerce and focuses on business recruitment, industry support, international trade, tourism promotion, and film marketing.
