Ed Hummel has been promoted to Judicial District Manager (JDM) for Judicial District 25 by the North Carolina Department of Adult Correction (NCDAC), with the appointment effective November 17. In this role, Hummel will be responsible for Community Supervision operations in Burke, Caldwell, and Catawba counties. The district consists of 90 probation and parole officers and staff who oversee more than 2,500 individuals under probation, parole, or post-release supervision.
“Ed Hummel’s leadership is clearly demonstrated in his dedication to building strong teams committed to creating safer communities,” said Leslie Cooley Dismukes, secretary for the Department of Adult Correction. “His experience with supervising challenging cases will be a great asset to District 25.”
“I am very pleased to promote Ed Hummel,” said Tracy K. Lee, chief deputy secretary for Community Supervision. “His steady leadership and dedication in Division 4 makes him a perfect fit for this new management role.”
Hummel brings 16 years of experience within the department. He started his career in District 26 (Mecklenburg County) in 2008 and was promoted in 2017 to Chief Probation/Parole Officer (CPPO) in District 29 (McDowell County). In 2024, he became Assistant Judicial District Manager (AJDM) in District 27 (Gaston County).
He has participated on various committees and boards and worked as a sustainability team trainer specializing in Motivational Interviewing, Division 4 sex offender onboarding processes, and Static-99 risk assessment used for sex offender supervision. Before joining NCDAC, Hummel worked as a probation officer in Florida and Virginia.
Hummel holds a bachelor’s degree in criminal justice from Westfield State University. He has completed the Frontline Leadership Program and is currently enrolled in the Management Development for Future Leaders Program.
