Congresswoman Deborah Ross, who has been serving in the U.S. Congress representing North Carolina’s 2nd District since 2021, voiced her positions on several contentious political topics through recent tweets. Ross, a former member of the North Carolina House of Representatives, expressed concern about upcoming legislation and critiqued the actions of former President Donald Trump.

On March 31, 2025, Representative Ross called attention to proposed legislation by House Republicans that, according to her, could potentially invalidate the ability of 69 million American women to register to vote following surname changes due to marriage. She stated, “This week, House Republicans want to ram through legislation that makes 69 million American women unable to register to vote simply because they changed their last name after marriage.” Ross emphasized her commitment to vote against this legislation, known as the SAVE Act, in order to safeguard women’s voting rights.

In a subsequent tweet on April 1, 2025, Ross criticized former President Trump’s tariff policies, calling them disorderly and disadvantageous to American consumers. She commented, “Trump’s back and forth tariff approach raises prices for consumers and rattles markets.” Her criticism extended to Trump’s trade strategy—or perceived lack thereof—summarized as “just reckless chaos, and ultimately the American people will pay for Trump’s trade war.”

Later that day, Ross challenged Trump’s respect for the judiciary, asserting that his history of opposing decisions that do not favor his wishes demonstrates a longstanding bias. In this tweet, she stated, “Donald Trump’s contempt for an independent judiciary is not new.” Ross further claimed that House Republicans have been compliant in this regard.
