In a series of recent tweets, Congresswoman Deborah Ross expressed her concerns regarding several policy issues and their potential impacts on citizens, particularly those in her constituency of North Carolina’s 2nd district. Serving since 2021, Ross shared her viewpoints on FEMA, Medicaid, and economic implications of government actions.

On April 3, 2025, Ross addressed the importance of FEMA to North Carolinians recovering from Hurricane Helene. She reflected on its critical role as a “lifeline” and explained her decision to collaborate with other representatives to scrutinize the Trump administration’s proposal to eliminate the agency. Ross wrote, “For many North Carolinians rebuilding after Hurricane Helene, FEMA has been a lifeline. That’s why I joined @RepAdams, @ValerieFoushee, and @RepDonDavis to demand answers on the Trump admin’s proposal to eliminate the agency.”

Later that day, Ross moved to discuss the significance of Medicaid beyond its health care coverage function, highlighting its role in providing “peace of mind.” She affirmed her commitment to protecting these services critical to her state’s residents, stating, “Medicaid is about more than health care coverage — it’s about ensuring people have peace of mind. I’ll continue doing everything I can to fight back and protect services that North Carolinians rely on.”

On April 4, 2025, Ross criticized the economic policies related to tariffs and exemptions favoring select industries. She expressed concern about the tariffs’ threat of a recession and the financial burden they impose on families, while wealthy donors receive benefits. She voiced her discontent, noting, “While Trump’s tariffs threaten a recession and cost families an average of $2,000 a year, he’s making exemptions for his wealthy oil and gas donors. He’s taking from working Americans to give to the wealthy.”
