Congresswoman Deborah Ross, representing North Carolina’s 2nd district since 2021, recently addressed several pertinent issues on her social media account. Her comments highlighted concerns ranging from the procedures impacting senior citizens to environmental protections and disaster recovery challenges in her state.
In a statement on March 27, 2025, Ross criticized the requirement for seniors to appear in person to continue receiving payments, emphasizing the challenges for those residing in rural areas. She expressed concern that “the most likely result is that seniors will go without their checks”.
Later that day, she marked the six-month anniversary of Hurricane Helene’s impact on Western North Carolina, stating that “far too many North Carolinians are still waiting for the disaster assistance they deserve”. Ross urged that communities cannot rely solely on resilience for rebuilding efforts.
Additionally, on the same date, March 27, 2025, Ross addressed proposed staffing and resource cuts at the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), which she contends threaten essential research into issues such as PFAS and air pollution from wildfire smoke. Along with colleagues including Representative Zoe Lofgren, she urged the EPA to maintain resources at its facilities such as those in Research Triangle Park (RTP). She announced, “today, I joined @RepZoeLofgren and my @sciencedems colleagues in urging EPA to maintain staffing and resources at EPA’s research facilities, including in RTP.”
