The Carolina Hurricanes announced on Apr. 14 that defensemen Joel Nystrom and Ronan Seeley have been recalled from the Chicago Wolves of the American Hockey League on an emergency basis.
This move comes as the team continues to adjust its roster for upcoming games, reflecting the ongoing development of players within its organization. The recall provides both athletes with opportunities to contribute at the National Hockey League level while addressing immediate team needs.
Nystrom, 23, scored his first career NHL goal earlier this season and has registered nine points in 37 games with the Hurricanes. He also played in 35 AHL games for Chicago, collecting nine points and maintaining a plus-8 rating. Originally from Karlstad, Sweden, Nystrom is in his first full season playing in North America after five seasons with Färjestad BK in Sweden’s top league. He was selected by Carolina in the seventh round of the 2021 NHL draft.
Seeley, also 23, led all Wolves defensemen this season with ten goals and twelve assists over sixty-seven games. He has played exclusively for Chicago at the AHL level since turning professional and previously captained Everett Silvertips during his junior career. Seeley represented Canada at the IIHF World Junior Championship in 2022 and was picked by Carolina during the seventh round of their 2020 draft.
The Hurricanes play their home games at Lenovo Center in Raleigh, North Carolina—a venue that offers more than 700,000 square feet of space with multiple seating levels and amenities such as suites and concession stands according to their official website. The arena accommodates up to twenty thousand people and hosts over one hundred fifty events each year according to their official website.
Beyond hockey operations, the franchise contributes more than $200 million annually to the local economy through events and community engagement according to their official website. The organization’s history includes winning a Stanley Cup championship in 2006 according to their official website, as well as honoring notable figures like Eric Staal and Rod Brind’Amour through induction into its Hall of Fame according to their official website.
