The Carolina Hurricanes secured a 5-2 victory against the Columbus Blue Jackets on Apr. 1, pulling away in the third period at Nationwide Arena and becoming the fourth National Hockey League team to reach 100 points this season.

The result marks a significant achievement for Carolina, who reached the century mark in points faster than any other Eastern Conference team this year. The team’s strong performance included three goals in the final period and contributions from several key players.

Shayne Gostisbehere opened scoring with a power-play goal, assisted by Nikolaj Ehlers, who later restored Carolina’s lead in the third period and set up Andrei Svechnikov for another power-play marker. Logan Stankoven added his career-high fifteenth goal of the season, while Jordan Martinook sealed the win with an empty-netter. Goaltender Brandon Bussi made 23 saves on 25 shots to earn his third consecutive victory.

Ehlers posted his seventh three-point game of the season and achieved his first career forty-assist campaign. Sebastian Aho reached fifty assists for the third time in his career. Seth Jarvis extended his point streak to seven games, matching his longest run of this season.

Reflecting on facing limited shots but high-quality chances as a goaltender, Bussi said, “Honestly, not really. It’s all mental. [I’m] just telling myself to be ready for the next shot. You never know when you’re going to have a moment that can change a game.” On playing during playoff pushes he said, “It’s that time of year, right? Everyone’s pushing to make playoffs here… This time of year just brings the best out of you.”

According to the official website, Carolina has recognized players such as Eric Staal and Rod Brind’Amour in their Hall of Fame for their contributions and won its only Stanley Cup championship in 2006. The Hurricanes play home games at Lenovo Center in Raleigh, according to venue information, which accommodates up to twenty thousand people and hosts more than one hundred fifty events each year. The arena spans over seven hundred thousand square feet and features multiple seating levels along with various amenities including suites and concession stands.

The team is scheduled to return home immediately after Tuesday’s game for practice before hosting Columbus again at Lenovo Center on Thursday night.
