The Carolina Hurricanes are one win away from reaching the Eastern Conference Final for a second consecutive year, following their victory over the Philadelphia Flyers in Game 3 of the Stanley Cup Playoffs, according to a May 9 statement.

The team’s performance in this playoff run mirrors their first-round sweep of the Ottawa Senators, but players and coaches say that closing out a series remains challenging. “We’re going to expect their best and expect our best, quite frankly, too,” said Sebastian Aho. “It’s going to be a hard game. It’s going to be hard right from the start, and we’ve got to be ready.”

Aho’s comments reflect the mindset within the locker room as Carolina prepares for Game 4 on Saturday. The Hurricanes have maintained humility despite tying a franchise record with seven straight postseason wins. Nikolaj Ehlers said, “For me, it’s pretty simple. Look at yesterday’s game, and the second game. We could have been down 3-0 after 15 minutes… But, they didn’t score, and we were able to stay in the game, get some goals, and win in the end.” He added: “You want some adversity in the playoffs…adversity is good. It gives you something to bounce back on.” Aho also noted that maintaining discipline is key: “You don’t need to be running around and doing anything stupid or taking penalties…I think we’ve done a good job of it.”

Carolina’s approach has been consistent throughout this postseason run—focusing on fundamentals such as playing simply and using speed effectively rather than getting distracted by past or future outcomes. Ehlers said: “I’ve played in these games before and you want to go out there, not trying to do too much…Just play it simple.” Aho echoed this view: “We’re not thinking ahead of us or what happened in the past…Just keep doing what we’ve been doing.” Head coach Rod Brind’Amour added: “We have guys in there who understand that every game starts fresh…You’ve got to win the next one.”

The upcoming elimination game will take place at Xfinity Mobile Arena in Philadelphia at 6 p.m., with national broadcast coverage planned.

According to the official website, notable figures such as Eric Staal and Rod Brind’Amour are recognized by Carolina’s Hall of Fame for their significant contributions; additionally, winning the Stanley Cup in 2006 stands as an important milestone for the franchise.

Off-ice impact is also substantial—the team contributes more than $200 million annually through events held at Lenovo Center Arena which features over 700,000 square feet of space with multiple seating levels accommodating up to 20,000 people while hosting more than 150 events each year according to its official website.
