The Carolina Hurricanes will face the Florida Panthers for the second time in five days on Tuesday at Lenovo Center in Raleigh. The puck is set to drop at 7:00 p.m. ET, with the game available on FanDuel Sports Network South and radio coverage on 99.9 The Fan and the Hurricanes App.
The Hurricanes currently lead the Metropolitan Division with a record of 22-10-3, totaling 47 points. In their last outing, they lost 6-4 to the Tampa Bay Lightning after giving up a three-goal lead. This was their second consecutive game losing after holding a similar advantage, following a previous loss to the Panthers.
Goaltender Pyotr Kochetkov recorded his second loss of the season against Tampa Bay, conceding five goals from 28 shots. One positive note was top prospect Bradly Nadeau scoring his second career goal after being recalled earlier that day.
The Hurricanes’ power play has shown improvement recently, producing goals in four straight games and ranking among the top three teams in this category since December 6. Sebastian Aho, Taylor Hall, and Jordan Staal have each scored two power-play goals during this stretch.
In net, all goaltenders are expected to be available for Tuesday’s game. Brandon Bussi started strong in his NHL career with an 11-1-1 record through his first 13 appearances but experienced his first post-regulation loss last Friday against Florida. Frederik Andersen remains winless in his last six starts but expressed optimism about his performance: “The way I look at it, I’ve played better hockey, and I’ve had worse numbers,” Andersen said following his most recent outing. “It doesn’t look good, obviously. We’re not getting the wins with me in the net lately, but I still feel like I’ve got my game. Maybe not perfectly where I want it, but like I’ve said, I’ve had worse stretches where things have looked better, and I’ve gotten more wins. That’s how I look at it. I try to be positive and move on.”
On the opposing side, Florida has won seven of its last nine games despite missing key players Aleksander Barkov and Matthew Tkachuk due to injuries. Brad Marchand leads their offense with 40 points over 34 games.
Several Hurricanes remain sidelined due to injury: Jaccob Slavin (upper-body), Seth Jarvis (upper-body), Jordan Martinook (lower-body), and Charles Alexis Legault (hand). Head coach Rod Brind’Amour confirmed Martinook would miss tonight’s contest.
The team will wear white uniforms for this matchup before heading into a league-mandated holiday break after Tuesday’s game.
