The Carolina Hurricanes secured their fourth consecutive win with a 3-2 shootout victory over the Philadelphia Flyers at Lenovo Center in Raleigh, North Carolina. The game marked the second straight night the teams faced each other, with both contests ending in shootouts.

Carolina established an early advantage, taking a 2-0 lead in the first period. William Carrier opened scoring with a shot from the high slot at 5:44, followed by Taylor Hall’s deflection on a power play goal ten minutes later. The Flyers narrowed the gap late in the first after a puck deflected off Carrier’s stick.

Philadelphia increased its offensive pressure as the game progressed, tying the score with just under two minutes left in regulation through Trevor Zegras. Despite holding possession and registering both shots on goal during overtime while on a power play, Carolina was unable to break through against Flyers goaltender Dan Vladar.

In the deciding shootout, Hurricanes goaltender Brandon Bussi stopped all three Philadelphia attempts. Andrei Svechnikov scored the only goal of the shootout to clinch the win for Carolina.

Head coach Rod Brind’Amour commented: “I loved the first two periods. We gave that late one up in a pulled goalie situation, and then we gave up (the one with the extra attacker on). So, we’ve got to do a better job there, for sure, but I liked the way we played those two periods.”

Andrei Svechnikov described his approach to his successful shootout attempt: “I didn’t score for probably the last 10 shootouts, so I had to score this one. I just went in from the left side and tried to make a move first. Thank God I scored that one.”

Brandon Bussi reflected on his performance: “I just try and bring my best every game, you know? I feel good right now. I feel confident. I feel like if I see the puck, I have a good chance to stop it. Our team has made some great plays in front, specifically, I remember at the end of the first period, after they scored… That’s the sacrifice we need to win games.”

Jaccob Slavin returned after missing 29 games due to injury and noted: “That was fun. It’s good to be back out there, good to be back playing. Sometimes being injured is almost harder than the grind of the season. But I’m just thankful. All in God’s time. I was stressing that the whole time in the recovery process… The guys did a great job while I was out. Obviously, ‘the Bus’ has been holding down the fort big time back there. Everyone else has been working hard; all the young guys that came up and played—I mean—the team has just done a great job.”

Bussi’s performance brought his record to 11-1-0 this season and matched Cam Ward’s franchise record for most consecutive wins by a Hurricanes netminder—a notable achievement considering Ward’s historic role as the first rookie goalie ever awarded NHL’s Conn Smythe Trophy during Carolina’s 2006 Stanley Cup run.

Svechnikov set another milestone by notching his twelfth career shootout goal—the most in franchise history—and maintaining one of Carolina’s highest conversion rates among players with ten or more attempts.

The Hurricanes’ home venue is Lenovo Center, which hosts over 150 events annually and supports community engagement efforts exceeding $200 million per year.

Carolina leads NHL teams this season when scoring first (14-2-0) and next faces Nashville away before returning home December 23 against Florida.
