The Carolina Hurricanes secured a 4-1 victory over the Columbus Blue Jackets at Lenovo Center on Tuesday, ending their losing streak. Ten different Hurricanes players contributed points in the game, and goaltender Brandon Bussi made 23 saves.

Columbus scored first during a power play in the opening period. The Hurricanes tied the game before the halfway mark when Andrei Svechnikov assisted Seth Jarvis for a goal. In the third period, Eric Robinson scored against his former team off a pass from Taylor Hall, giving Carolina its first lead of the night.

Jordan Staal increased the lead with a deflection on another power play opportunity. As Columbus attempted to close the gap late in the game, Jordan Martinook scored an empty-net goal to secure Carolina’s win.

Brandon Bussi recorded his seventh consecutive win as starting goalie and became only the fifth NHL goaltender to achieve nine wins in his first ten career games—the most recent being Igor Shesterkin in 2019-20. Seth Jarvis reached his team-leading 17th goal of the season and matched Eric Staal as one of two players in franchise history to reach that mark within 29 games.

Andrei Svechnikov registered two assists, surpassing Jeff Skinner for tenth-most points in franchise history with 381. Eric Robinson netted his second game-winning goal this season, matching his best scoring start through 23 games. Jordan Staal notched a power-play goal for a second straight match and extended his point streak to three games. Defenseman Shayne Gostisbehere also maintained his point streak with an assist—his fourth consecutive game doing so—and leads all Hurricanes defensemen with 22 points this season.

Head coach Rod Brind’Amour said after the win: “The whole game, I thought, was good. Obviously, we got behind, but we just kept playing. Everyone contributed tonight. We got a good save to keep the game tight, then (Eric Robinson’s goal). You can go down the list; everybody made some sort of play. That’s how you draw it up. It was a special night, obviously, with all of the guys back. I thought our guys performed really well.”

Eric Robinson reflected on winning during an event honoring members of Carolina’s championship team from 2005-06: “Definitely. It’s important to recognize those guys. They did what we’re all trying to do, and to see them come back and the camaraderie they have and how much fun they still have celebrating it 20 years later, it makes you excited to want to do something similar.”

Seth Jarvis commented on Bussi’s performance: “He doesn’t get shaken. In the position he was in coming in, a bad goal or something could have ruined a guy’s confidence, but I think he’s incredibly confident in himself, and he knows that. For us, knowing we have a guy back there that makes timely saves and will bail us out when need be is huge.”

Bussi said about his strong start: “I just take it day by day. It feels good to get wins. Our team’s been playing really well most of these wins, if not all of them. We’re going to try and keep it going.”

The Hurricanes plan an optional practice Wednesday before traveling for two road games beginning Thursday against Washington.
