The Carolina Hurricanes have made a notable appearance in the 2024-25 Calder Trophy voting, with forwards Jackson Blake and Logan Stankoven earning recognition among the top 13 players. The Calder Trophy is an annual award given to the “player selected as the most proficient in his first year of competition” by the Professional Hockey Writers Association (PHWA).
This year’s trophy was awarded to Montreal Canadiens defenseman Lane Hutson, who led all rookies in scoring with 66 points. The Hurricanes were one of only two teams with multiple players receiving votes. Stankoven, aged 22, secured seventh place after accumulating 38 points over 78 games played for both Carolina and Dallas this season. Meanwhile, Blake, aged 21, finished ninth after achieving the fifth-most goals by a rookie (17) since the team’s relocation.
Historically, the Hurricanes have won the Calder Trophy once before when Jeff Skinner received it for his performance during the 2010-11 season.
