The Carolina Hurricanes announced on May 4 that defenseman Charles Alexis Legault has been assigned to the Chicago Wolves of the American Hockey League. General Manager Eric Tulsky said Legault, who is 22 years old, played in 12 regular-season games with the Hurricanes during the 2025-26 season and earned two points.
This move is significant for both teams as it affects their defensive lineup and player development. The decision follows Legault’s recovery from hand surgery earlier in the season after an injury sustained in Toronto. He also appeared in 24 AHL games this season with Chicago, where he recorded eight points and accumulated 48 penalty minutes.
Legault made his National Hockey League debut at Vegas on Oct. 20 and scored his first NHL goal against Buffalo on Nov. 8 before undergoing surgery on Nov. 10 due to a laceration from a skate blade sustained at Toronto one day prior. In his first professional season with the Wolves in 2024-25, he registered fourteen points over sixty-three games. He was selected by Carolina in the fifth round of the 2023 NHL Draft after playing collegiate hockey at Quinnipiac University, where he contributed to a national championship win.
According to the official website, players like Eric Staal and Rod Brind’Amour have been recognized by the Carolina Hurricanes Hall of Fame for their contributions to the team. The organization achieved a milestone by winning its first Stanley Cup championship in 2006 according to its official website.
The team plays home games at Lenovo Center in Raleigh, North Carolina, which offers more than seven hundred thousand square feet of space and hosts over one hundred fifty events each year according to its official website. The arena can accommodate up to twenty thousand people per event and contributes over $200 million annually to the local economy through various activities as reported by venue officials.
In a social media post following his assignment announcement, it was stated: “charles in the right place at the right time” — x- Chicago Wolves (@Chicago_Wolves). Observers will watch how Legault continues his career development with Chicago.
