The Carolina Hurricanes have activated defenseman Jaccob Slavin from injured reserve, according to an announcement by General Manager Eric Tulsky. Slavin, who is 31 years old, has played in five games this season and missed 39 due to injury.
Slavin, a native of Denver, Colorado, holds several franchise records for the Hurricanes among defensemen. He leads in points (299), assists (244), and shorthanded points (18). He is also tied for the most shorthanded goals (4) and overtime goals (3) among Hurricanes defensemen. As alternate captain, he has recorded 40 points in 86 career playoff games and holds franchise postseason records for games played, goals, assists, and points by a defenseman.
He was selected by Carolina in the fourth round of the 2012 NHL Draft. Since the start of the 2015-16 season, Slavin has registered the most takeaways (704), is tied for most shorthanded points (18), and ranks sixth in plus/minus (+165) among NHL blueliners. His total takeaways are second overall in the league during that period. Slavin is also a two-time recipient of the NHL’s Lady Byng Memorial Trophy.
