Attorney General Jeff Jackson has expressed his approval of the recent legislative action taken by the General Assembly concerning law enforcement retirement and service options. The bill aims to provide officers with greater flexibility in their careers, allowing them to remain on duty without sacrificing financial benefits they have accrued through their service.
Jackson highlighted the dual benefit of this legislation: it aids police departments and sheriffs’ offices in retaining qualified and experienced officers during a period marked by significant officer shortages. “This bill will give our officers flexibility to stay on the force without giving up money they’ve earned through their service,” Jackson stated. He further emphasized the importance of enabling dedicated officers to continue serving their communities effectively.
In his statement, Jackson extended gratitude towards both the Sheriffs’ Association and the Association of Chiefs of Police for their advocacy efforts on behalf of officers and deputies. He also commended legislators for passing what he described as an important bill.
