Attorney General Jeff Jackson has taken action in a case involving Public Service Company of North Carolina (PSNC) and its request to implement additional charges on energy bills. Jackson expressed concern about PSNC’s proposal to include riders that would add costs without undergoing the comprehensive review process typically required in a general rate case.

“North Carolina families are already facing higher energy bills this winter, and PSNC is trying to include riders that add on costs that will not go through the comprehensive review of a general rate case,” said Attorney General Jeff Jackson. “I’m asking the Utilities Commission to reject these riders and protect North Carolina ratepayers.”

The North Carolina Utilities Commission is expected to make a decision on the matter by January 26, 2026.

This intervention follows earlier efforts by Attorney General Jackson to address utility rate increases in the state. Earlier in December, he intervened regarding Duke Energy’s proposal for a 15 percent increase in rates over the next two years.
