When Ashlyn Dibiase moved into her first apartment, she decided to adopt a dog for companionship. While browsing the Wake County Animal Center’s website, she found Kino, who had been at the shelter for 232 days. His unique coat and gentle demeanor caught her attention.
Ashlyn took time to bond with Kino, learning his habits and quirks. “I mean, I was expecting some sort of challenges, but he’s been a great companion ever since he walked through my door,” she said.
Kino adapted well to his new home despite not liking being crated while Ashlyn worked. She kept his name because it was unique. Ashlyn encourages others to consider adopting from the Wake County Animal Center due to their care for animals.
Ashlyn advises taking it easy when adopting pets as they adjust to new environments. Since adoption, Kino has become more playful and loyal. “I’ve had dogs all my life… I am surprised by how much he loves me,” she noted.
Reflecting on life with Kino, Ashlyn shared, “Just having him… he’s helped me in ways I didn’t expect.”
