Governor Roy Cooper announced today that Green New Energy Materials, Inc. will establish its first manufacturing operation in the United States in Lincoln County, creating 545 jobs and investing $140 million in the community of Denver, North Carolina.
"North Carolina’s momentum in clean energy economy grows stronger every day, bringing great manufacturing jobs that will put money in the pockets of families in Lincoln County and all across the state,” said Governor Cooper.
Jay Zhu, General Manager for Green New Energy Materials, expressed gratitude for the support from the State of North Carolina and Lincoln County, stating, “We would like to thank the strong and unwavering support from the State of North Carolina and Lincoln County for our project.”
The new facility in Lincoln County will manufacture battery separator components for the lithium-ion battery industry, catering to customers across North America. This move is part of GNEM's strategic plan to establish clean energy supply chains worldwide.
North Carolina Commerce Secretary Machelle Baker Sanders highlighted the state's investments in education and workforce training programs, noting their role in attracting companies like GNEM to partner with the state.
N.C. Senator Ted Alexander expressed satisfaction with GNEM's decision, stating, “Green New Energy Materials’ decision today is a major vote of confidence in Lincoln County and our people, and we couldn’t be more pleased.”
N.C. Representative Jason Saine emphasized North Carolina's competitive advantages as a business location, welcoming the new jobs and investments to the region.
The project in North Carolina will be facilitated by a Job Development Investment Grant (JDIG), with a projected return on investment of 105 percent. The company's choice of Lincoln County will also benefit other economically challenged communities in the state.
